Hello I'm Gemma

Hello, I am Gemma, I live here with my Mum, Ellie. The rescue people were nice and I would have liked to stay with them, because they had lots of Cavaliers to play with. There is only Ellie here and she is boring and will not play with me. I try and fight with her sometimes, but she just gives in. I pinch her babies and will not let her have them back, that's good fun!
I have toys too, but hers are better than mine.

When I first came here, I was not used to going out for walks and was really scared of anything that moves, leaves, cars, other dogs, it was scary for me. So I had to be tough, bark a lot and show the other dogs I am boss! I am not really, I am a softy, but it warns them off. I only like Cavaliers. I have a Ruby friend called Georgy who I love to see when out for walks. He likes me too; sometimes he gets cheeky and tries to sniff my bottom! I butt him with my head and he stops it then.

Gemma and Bessie Bunny

I have another friend, Bessie Bunny, she is rescued too, I like sitting in the garden when she is out munching all Mum's leaves. She comes and sits with me in the sun. When it is time for her to go in, I chase her back into her hutch. I sometimes sneak in and eat her food and poop, but Mum caught me once and got cross. So I have to be more careful now not to get caught at it!

I did not like people much when I first came, I would run away and hide, then come back out and squeak in a high-pitched noise, I do not know where it came from, then I would crawl away on my belly. Some people thought it was funny. Ellie was scared too she ran off also. Mum fixed this by making people make us sit and then we got a treat when we were quiet.

Mum took me to dog class, Ellie cried and did not want to be left at home. I enjoyed class apart from the big dogs. We had lots of fun; I got lots of treats too for being good. I learnt to sit, stay, jump over stuff, and go through tunnels. I did not like the plank thing, too scary so I laid down on it and froze, Mum had to lift me off. I am getting better at that now. I got a certificate and a biscuit to prove I was a good dog. I am going back again in the summer to learn some more.

Gemma

I am a noisy dog. I snore and make Cavalier grunts, and bark a lot. Especially when people knock on the door. Mum fixed this, she got a doorbell, and I am still trying to work out how they get in without knocking? I bark at anyone who walks past my house and go crazy if they have a dog with them. I bark if I wake up and find myself on my own. Ellie won't sleep with me because I snore I think.

I love the sunshine and will follow it all through the house, moving from room to room. Mum and Dad play lots of games with me, I can catch toys in my mouth now, Ellie just sits there, she could have fun too but she will not join in Mum and Dad try to get us both to play together, no way Ellie says let me go to sleep. Lazy thing!

I like being with my humans, they give me lots of kisses and tickles on my tummy. I sleep on their bed with Ellie. I know when Dad is coming home from work; I sit and wait for him by the door. Mum says I am very clever to know that. I love going in the car and know when they are thinking about going out, I go wait at the door, so they cannot leave without me. It works sometimes!

Gemma and Ellie enjoying Chistmas

I love going on holiday, all the lovely smells and I get the chance to roll in some lovely stuff, dead seagulls and crabs, the smellier the better. Lovely rock pools with things in to paw out! I love walking in the woods now and the scrunchy leaves do not bother me anymore. I am not so scared as I was. I am glad I was rescued, whatever that is? I cannot have puppies, but hey who needs them, this is the life, lots of walks, good food, I even get Sunday lunch with Yorkshire Pudding! Well I am a Yorkshire Cavalier!

Mum and Dad had Cavaliers before us; you can read their stories too. Just click on the links Albert and Henry. If you would like to sign our guest book and let us know what you think about our site, please click on the link.
