Ellie 2003

Hello, my name is Ellie, this is my second home. I thought I had come for a holiday and kept hoping my family would come back and get me soon. I cried sometimes, the smells were different here than my home, and I could smell other Cavaliers had been here before me. Where were they? Would they come back and be cross because I was here. I was scared so many new noises, I wished I were back home.

They would not leave me, no, they loved me when I was little and cute! Then as I grew I had lots of puppies too, but all of them left home and went to other two-legged people, the weeks went by and they did not come for me, I kept looking and waiting for them. The routines were different in this house. I was fed the same food, but they wanted to take me out for walks and play games.

I want to run away back to my home, back to what I know best. Why are my family not coming? These new folks want to play with me with balls and toys. Well I am not doing so there! They want kisses, Yuk! I do not do kisses!

Ellie smells food coming!

Later I heard the two-legged ones say no more babies for this one! I loved my babies and was a good mum. Off to the vet, I was so upset and sad, How could they do this to me, where were my family? I am going to run away and find them; they must be missing me by now? Plan one into operation. Lull the two legged ones into thinking I am happy and settled, then when they take my lead off, I'm on my way back home!

Planned my moment and sure enough, they fell for it, I ran off and hid for a bit in the woods, I could hear them calling for me, but stayed quiet so they did not find me. I was scared, but determined to find my family in the end. I came out and started to walk on the road. I was hungry, so if I go back and get some food first then I am sorted. So I give in and go and bark at the door! Oh no, they want to kiss me and hug me, get off!. I thought they would be cross, why not, I had been naughty, perhaps I will run away tomorrow!

Hello my name is Ellie

I knew I should not stay here, they have taken me to a dog class now, I do not like other dogs, and I hide under the chair and refuse to come out. I will not play with anyone, people are patting my head. I duck out of the way. I slip my collar and make a dash for the door, out into grounds, into the road. I nearly ran into a car. I start howling, I am scared now, really scared. They are calling my name, I do not answer. I start howling again. They catch me and hold me so tight giving me lots of love and kisses. They are crying too. I realise then my other family will never come for me now.

I have settled down now, at times, I am a sad dog, I will play sometimes, its quite good fun, Mum chases me over the house and I can laugh sometimes. I do not like to enjoy myself too much, I go and sit away from them in my basket till they miss me and call me to come and sit with them.

I like it when Mum cooks and there are lovely smells coming from the kitchen, I sneak in and get really close to her, she nearly fell over me once! That was funny because she chased me again. I am not allowed off lead, and Mum makes me do as I am told now. She used to let me off at first, but not now. I think she loves me, but I am not too sure, I licked her nose the other day when she was brushing me and she laughed and said that's a first! I might do it again some day.

Ellie with Gemma, relaxing

I have been a lot of places with my new family, Northumberland, Scotland, Yorkshire Dales; we have picnics and walks on the beach. I go shopping with them too and guard the car for them. I always get a biscuit when they come back. I do not go into kennels, they like us being with them all the time. I am getting to like it too.

Being rescued was not easy for me, but I am getting used to it and I do not think about my other family as much now. I think I like it here. I have lots of Beanie Babies to play with; my favourite one is a Tri-colour Cavalier just like my puppies. When I come in from walkies I dash to the basket and pick it up, carrying it carefully in my mouth, showing everyone what a good Mum I was. No one takes my babies away, well only to wash them and I sit and wait till they come out. Safe and sound, I used to cry when they went in, but I know they will be all right now.

I can hear Mum starting to make the dinner, must go, I hope its sausages, my favourite! Wait for me!!
